The IJF masters faces with cancellations. Many of the top athletes let it go, this gives chances for other athletes, where the ones who are on the verge of qualification are worried. At the Masters in Guadalajara (MEX) a lot of points are at stake and the athletes who are now virtually qualified via the continental quota foresee problems once the top athletes won’t be going. The continental quote is a complicated system and it’s a huge calculation to keep your rivals behind you.

One of those athletes is Swedish Mia Hermansson who was really relieved to win a bronze medal at the Grand Prix in Almaty. “I hope I’m close now, I hope it’s done, but it is going to be a big problem if the top athletes don’t go to Almaty.”

Hermansson felt emotional after her bronze medal about. “It feels great, it was amazing. The long tour, the long years, it feels really good.”

“Today I could bring something extra. Today was really fun, but today I woke up and make some fun, so I had a few good fights and felt it was possible, but the previous tournament the pressure has been big. “

“I was already in the continental quota positions. So I was just hoping not to get pushed out. But it’s always a risk and stay focus on your own things instead of calculating and see how others are doing, that was the main thing. Qualification makes everything worth it, worth the long trip and it’s a perfect ending to these long two years.”

You also have a rival in Sweden as well, not just in your category but also for a continental quota position. “It’s good that I’m in the continental quota, so then we need to choose between two people, that would be rough. So I would be happy if someone would go directly.”

“Now I’m going to Turkey on Monday which is the best training camp of the year, so I’m really happy about that and after that I’m going to the masters.”
