Russian juniors capture 8 gold medals in La Coruna

At the European Cup in La Coruna the Russian Juniors showed a good form winning an amazing eight gold medals. Both on Saturday as on Sunday four gold medals were handed out to Russian juniors. Italy and Germany won two gold medals.

Starting with the men U55kg where there was an all Russian final between Adam Isaev and Shakhzod Amonov, it was Amonov who took the first gold. 2015 European silver medallist Ayub Bliev took the gold in the north of Spain. His countryman David Gamosov won gold U66kg. Twice a Spanish fighter lost the final on Saturday, first against Bliev and the second final against Italian Junior champion Manuel Lombardo.

Aram Grigorian of Russia defeated Turpal Tepkaev in the final U81kg and U90kg Roman Dontsov won gold after beating Julius Sonerud. Extra special was the first gold medal of the year in the junior circuit for Denmark. Mathias Madsen became the winner in the category U100kg and the training efforts paid out. The British juniors weren’t spoiled either and Wesley Greenidge won the first gold of the season in his heavyweight category.

The first gold of the first day was for the Spanish organisation that could cheer for the achievement of Mireia Rodriguez Salvador. She bested Silvia Drago (ITA) U44kg. Four different winners on Saturday with Daria Pichkaleva for Russia U48kg against Laura Martinez (ESP). Betina Betelkova, formerly fighting for Bulgaria, now took gold on behalf of Israel. Pauline Starke didn’t make a mistake this time and grabbed gold U57kg. She defeated her German colleague Nora Bannenberg in the final. Sarah Maekelburg captured the gold medal for Germany U70kg. Italian junior champion Nadia Simeoli booked another success, in La Coruna she defeated Ida Eriksson (SWE) in the final U63kg. The last two titles were for Russia as Svetlana Voronina U78kg and Anna Gushchina (+78kg) won gold. Gushchina overcame Katarina Vukovic of Croatia in the final.

In September the Junior European Championships take place in Maribor in Slovenia.
