John O’Neill
Canadian judoka John O’Neill was born in Toronto in 1953 and moved to Aurora in 1958. In 1967 Bill Mcgregor (multiple Canadian champion and 1972 Olympian) opened Budokai Judo Club. In 1971 John fought Mitch Kawasaki in the finals under 65kg at the canadian championship in Montreal. He lost by wazari but earned a spot on the Canadian team to fight in Germany at the world championships in September of 1971. It was truly a wonderful experience for him especially being such a young participant.
