Judo in Estonia became popular because of Indrek Pertelson, Alexei Budolin and Martin Padar. Grigori Minaskin was judoka in Rio2016. Indrek Pertelson won two Olympic medals and current headcoach Alexei Budolin won bronze in 2000 in Sydney. Indrek Pertelson and Alexei Budolin also won two World Championships judo medals. Estonian judoka Juhan Mettis is a good heavyweight for Estonia. Each year the European Open in Tallinn is held.
