Next generation knocking at German Championships

On the second day of the German Championships the UJKC from Potsdam proved why it was worth keeping this Olympic training center by providing 5 of the 12 finalists on Sunday. In total, there are 6 first time Senior German champions at the second day, none of them is over 22 years old. The next generation is ready for the new Olympic cycle.

The show of all big finals was probably stolen by the fight for the bronze medal between title favorite Amelie Stoll and Ines Beischmidt. Stoll took the lead at the beginning with a wazari, about 40 seconds before the end Beischmidt managed to equalize the score. Meanwhile both fighters were penalised with two shidos, which led to the curious end of this medal fight. Because Amelie Stoll tried to force a third shido on Beischmidt by tactical fighting, she held her opponent's lap arm away and attacked with her feet. Ines Beischmidt was forced to passivity by this grip.

Because of the judo preventing tactics of Stoll and the inactivity of Beischmidt the judges decided to give a double shido, both of them received the third. So in the weight class U57 only one bronze medal was given to Miriam Garmatter, who was also the oldest medal winner of the event with 34 years. The final of the U57kg class was decided between Jana Ziegler of UJKC Potsdam and Düsseldorfer Nora Bannenberg. The two stood on the podium for the first time at the Senior German Championships and fought a strong battle for the gold medal. Ziegler started with a wazari, which Bannenberg equalized with an o-uchi-gari one minute later. After 1:22 minutes in the golden score Jana Ziegler threw the winning technique with an appealing combination.

The U73kg final was won by the third-placed of 2018 Schamil Dzavbatyrov of TSV Großhadern against the 2017 bronze medallists Kilian Ochs, also UJKC Potsdam. After only about 1:40 minutes Dzavbatyrov threw a full point to win. A surprise was the only 19-year-old Luc Meyer of KSC Spremberg. He was able to beat last year's first Isaev and the 2018 U66 winner Adam on his way to the bronze medal.

In the U63kg category, Dena Pohl (UJKC Potsdam) finally took home the gold medal after two second places in 2018 and 2019. She won the final against Agatha Schmidt (JC 66 Bottrop) by taking over an attack from Schmidt and was awarded an Ippon for this action.

Gramkow only double German champion on Sunday

Tim Gramkow (TKJ Sastedt) was awarded the final victory in the U81kg class without a fight, because Timo Cavelius (PTSV Hof) did not compete. Hannes Conrad and Niklas Blöchl took third place after both lost their semi-finals.

In the U70 weight category Alina Böhm (JZ Heubach) could use her home advantage and showed endurance and mental strength. In the semifinals she fought against Julie Hölterhoff for more than ten minutes, but finally won with a well-timed o-uchi-gari. In the final she was then faced by Marlene Galandi (UJKC Potsdam), who could surprise with a choking technique after only 40 seconds. After last year's silver medal, Böhm now picked up the golden version.

Falk Petersilka (Godesberger JC) complemented his medal set in the U90kg weight class. After a second place in 2018 and a third place in 2019, he this time won gold. The final opponent of the Junior European Champion was Tim Schmidt (UJKC Potsdam), who won bronze medals in the two previous years. Schmidt and Petersilka fought a balanced fight, Petersilka even had to accept two shidos. After almost 3 minutes in the golden score the Godesberg judoka managed to fix his opponent in a hold.
