Strong German team at European Cup Malaga

The German team has done some good business at the last European Cup of the season. In Malaga the Germans won six gold medals, four for the women, two for the men. The Spanish men were strong and won three titles in Malaga and the women one, a total of four for the host nation.

The Spanish started well U48kg where Cinta Garcia defeated Francesca Milani (ITA). Salvador Cases (U66kg), Daniel Gonzalez (U90kg) and Sergio Trillo (U100kg) captured the gold as well. Worth while mentioning was a silver medal for Henrik Reitan of Norway U100kg, his second medal this year and only the third for Norway this year in the twelve European Cups.

Italy won two gold medals, the first U60kg by Manuel Lombardo the 16 -year old talent. Also gold for Italy’s Lucia Tangorre who was the best in a pool of three U78kg.

Russia took gold U73kg by Saian Ondar, the number three of Russia.

Finland was happy to see Katri Kakko. Only in the Junior category she had won a European Cup. The Nordic Champion was the best U52kg where she defeated Estrella Lopez of Spain in the final. For Finland it was the third victory this season in the Senior European Cup circuit. Laakkonen and Ikala won in Tampere.

However in Malaga the German team was by far too strong. First of all by former World Junior Champ Sappho Coban who successfully stepped up to U57kg this season and also won the European Cup in Sindelfingen. Now she defeated German Swantje Kaiser in the final. Despite the competition in Germany in this category with Roper, Waechter and Mueller Coban might be able to step on to their level soon.

Vivian Herrmann defeated Nadja Bazynski in another all German final U63kg. Miriam Buttkereit overcame Ekaterina Tokareva U70kg. Carolin Weiss and Kristin Buessow fought their heavyweight final and Weiss won.

In the men’s division Dominic Ressel was the best U90kg. He won his second European Cup, last year he won in Helsingborg and this year he took bronze at the Grand Slam in Baku, another level. The heavyweight gold was for Germany was well as Anton Krivickij who defeated British Neil Schofield in the final.
